Rotary Club member and local attorney Chad Plumley introduced Lisa Nevitt as our guest speaker. Mrs. Nevitt operates the Kennesaw branch for Lekotek of Georgia. This company provides opportunities for learning and play to children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
Mrs. Nevitt thanked the club for the opportunity to share a little bit about the services that Lekotek provides to families who have children with physical, cognitive and/or sensory disabilities. Lekotek is a Swedish company whose name means "play library", and that is much of what they have to offer. Children with disabilities such as these have a very difficult time utilizing and learning from normal toys and other educational toys. Some of the specialized toys that are specifically designed and engineered to reach children in their condition can be very expensive. Missed opportunities during early childhood development can aggravate and compound some disabilities, not to mention robbing the family of an opportunity to engage with the child. Lekotek provides families the opportunity for schedule play sessions. They stock and maintain these toys and provide a place for the family can interact and play with their child while benefiting from these stimulating toys. Staff members are certified and have backgrounds in therapeutic fields, special education, and childhood development.
Lekotek has locations in Alpharetta, Duluth, Peachtree City, Gainesville, and Kennesaw. For anyone that would like more information please call Lisa Nevitt at 770-420-9889
